General Safety

  • The use of BB shot and guns with an energy level in excess of 12 ft.lbf (16.2 J) is prohibited.
  • During its set up or removal, guns must not be placed on the shooting range and target lighting must be switched off until completed.
  • The storeroom door must be secured before shooting commences.
  • When not in use on the shooting range, all guns being moved or laying dormant must be either cased, or pointing away from all persons and not be cocked or loaded.
  • Where possible a visual indication of safe condition should be displayed (e.g. break barrel type broken, PCP’s with magazine out).
  • Pellets may only be inserted when on the range with the gun pointing towards the targets.
  • It is advisable to wash hands after handling lead pellets.
  • Visitors under 18 years old, and novices, must be under the supervision of a responsible member.
  • A safety barrier must be installed at the firing line and no person is to move, remove, or step beyond it, except a club member, dealing with operations associated with the targets, such as replacement.

Replacing Targets

  • The member replacing targets or dealing with other operations down range, may open the barrier to pass through at the specified point and must ensure that all guns have been laid down and are not being handled before proceeding.
  • This member shall designate a responsible member (usually a shooter on the range) to act as lookout, to ensure that guns are not handled while targets are replaced.
  • Be aware of the trip hazard from lighting cables in the target area.
  • Upon his return the barrier must be closed before shooting may commence.
